A Headshot Session For A New Website

Are you starting a new business, refreshing your Website, or just need a new Headshot?  People often wonder what is involved in a Headshot Session, so I thought I would show you!  Recently I had the pleasure of photographing Mary’s Headshots for her new website.  Mary called me because she has seen my work frequently  in Simply Saratoga Magazine–yay!  It is always helpful to me when clients are familiar with my work ahead of time.

A Consultation Prior To A Headshot Session Is Important

We met up before the session for a brief consultation. While I do prefer to meet in person, we can also do this over the phone.   Mary is starting and developing her business as an intuitive and energy worker, so we knew the vibe did not need to be super formal.  I knew she needed to look friendly and accessible.  We discussed clothing and color prior to the session.  I actually painted the pink backdrop to match the color on her business card!

I knew when I photographed Mary’s Headshots that I wanted to convey her warmth as well as her gentleness.  I also love her smile.  I think she brought the perfect type of clothing for her session too.  It was a casual yet professional look.

The Session Is Your Time To Shine

I look at the actual session as a time to talk to my clients and perhaps draw them out a little bit.  I like using the time to find out more about their businesses and also about them as people.

We Help You Choose Your Headshots Personally

One thing I absolutely don’t want to do is simply throw a gallery online and leave it to clients to choose their Headshots.  I find many times people simply get overwhelmed and cannot make a choice when confronted with multiple images online.  We schedule an in person consultation where we go over the Headshot Session Images.  We will imediately eliminate what you don’t like.  Then we will compare the “Maybes” and narrow it down.  The entire appointment takes about a half hour and is honestly very painless.  We might even laugh and joke around.  During this appointment, we will also discuss retouching and your personal preferences regarding that.  Some people have very definite ideas about this, so taking a couple minutes talking about this is helpful.

After our clients make their final selections, it only takes a couple days to finalize them and deliver them–easy peasy!  These  were  Mary’s  final  selections.  We  really  only  did  a light  retouch  and  cleaned  up  some stray  hairs.

So there you have it–a simple walk through of what a typical Headshot Session is like with me!  I hope you come in soon for your own Headshot Session!
